Orchestra, Trampoline, Broken Bus

I know the title of this post sounds completely random, but that's how it goes in SA.
On Saturday, we had the privilege of joining some of the children from Makaphutu at their orchestra practice at a children's village in Durban. Some music teachers in the area decided to teach each children's village a different instrument and then bring them together once a month for a combined practice. Our children are learning how to play the violin and the cello. The end goal of this project is to have the children play at different venues during the World Cup 2010 that is coming to Durban. They are doing a great job and the music teachers have asked that we continue to encourage them in their lessons. They definitely know a lot more than I do so our plan is to have them "teach" us and in turn get some practice in. :)

The trampoline has been finished and is where we spend most of our afternoons. I promise that I can still do a toe touch even though the pictures all look like failed attempts. The kids are still working on their photography, but we'll get there. I do have to say that some toe touches have resulted in me sitting out for a bit...so sad...I feel like a little kid when I'm jumping up and down, but my body quickly reminds me that I am not. The kids are incredible on the trampoline and know all kinds of crazy tricks. I have only done one flip and just to say that I've done it is good enough...there will be no more. I'm trying to come back in one piece. Haha.

One day last week when we took the creche children home, I tried to open the bus to let them out and the door handle broke. So some of the kids and volunteers were stuck inside. We had to borrow a screwdriver and try to pry it open. We were quite a scene, but we met some cute kids in the meantime.

Coming up next on the blog...our first week at Inkazimulo Primary School.

Cassie,
Don't injure yourself, like the brother does thinking that he is still a young man. He forgets he will be forty tomorrow. Send e-mails to abbygrant99@gmail.com
Love you loads and you remain in my prayers.

It's great that you have the opportunity to spend another summer working with these kids! I know that the time you spend with them and the love and attention you give them is such a blessing in their lives. I look forward to reading your updates about your experiences there!
